Hôtel Akena City Châteaurenard

It’s a peaceful hotel just outside Avignon, with a gated area and a good base for visiting nearby towns. Breakfast was decent and the wifi worked great.

At 22:00 we were left trying to find somewhere else to stay, with our reservation still active. The hotel said our card wouldn’t go through, even after we tried three different cards through Booking that had worked perfectly elsewhere. They wouldn’t agree to any of our suggestions, such as paying at check-in or check-out, and didn’t cancel the booking either. The whole experience felt very unprofessional and unpleasant.

You can clearly hear conversations from the next room, including everything being said. On top of that, mine had constant noise through the night from what sounded like ventilation or heating equipment. There was tobacco smell everywhere, and the carpeting in the room speaks for itself in the pictures. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The staff were really kind and friendly, but the rooms are tiny and breakfast is basic. Housekeeping woke us at 8:30, then kept making a lot of noise around us despite the sign we put outside. They didn’t seem to care that guests were sleeping, and this happened every night we stayed. I’d only suggest this hotel if you have no other choice.
