Hôtel Saint Nicolas

The hotel had a charming look, almost like a little medieval village, which is why we picked it as a stop on our way through southern France. Check-in was unusual: no staff were there, so we used the intercom. We were a family of five and were given two rooms, one with four beds and a cot, and one double. We could have managed in a single room, but went with the arrangement. The larger room smelled of cigarettes, and that spoiled the stay. We raised it with staff at checkout, but weren't satisfied with their response. Later, we contacted the hotel through Booking.com chat and found the tone unprofessional. Instead of dealing constructively with the smell complaint, they accused us of being rude at check-in and behaving improperly at breakfast. The way the cigarette odor issue was dismissed, along with those accusations, left us disheartened.

Our waitress was very sweet, but the food was so poorly done. It was bland, very simple, and felt like something you could make yourself in two minutes. There was almost no veg or anything else. Nothing special, and far too expensive for what you get. The waitress was lovely, though, so that's why I'm giving it three stars. Otherwise, one.

The beds were comfortable and we were greeted in a friendly way, but the accommodation was pretty basic. Our room was too cold, the toilet cistern had problems, and the door handle was very hard to close. Not bad overall, though it felt a bit pricey with those issues.

There was no staff member around when I arrived to ask about the accommodation, just a notice telling me my room number. The Wi-Fi is awful. I couldn't connect from inside the room and had to stand outside it to get any signal. I need internet for work, so this is a critical issue. Don't advertise the service if you can't guarantee it. I'll try to change hotels tomorrow if I don't get a positive answer about the Wi-Fi problem.
