H Otel Restaurant Des Lacs

The garden looks like it could be lovely in summer, and there’s a nice pool and parking. Staff were friendly, the rooms are fairly cheap, and the food was good value. I especially liked the Caesar salad. We didn’t try the sauna. Our room, #23, needed a better clean. There was a long hair in the bathroom when we arrived, mould on the shower curtain, and cigarette ends on the balcony. The sheets looked clean, but we still felt uneasy. The walls are thin, so bring earplugs. The owner says they’re renovating. I think this could be a really nice hotel when the work is done, if they improve the cleaning.

I left as soon as it was light out. I really wouldn’t recommend staying here, and I have photos of what I found in the room. It felt trashy and ridiculously expensive, and I expect the owner will respond by trying to ridicule this review, as they have with others. The bed was awful, like a straw-filled mattress that sagged under my body and kept the indentations for hours. I couldn’t fall asleep. The room itself was dirty too, with spiderwebs and spiders, dusty floors and surfaces, and yellow-brown stains on the walls. There were no blinds or curtains on the east-facing window. It looked straight toward the kitchen, so hot oil smells came in, and the kitchen stayed busy late, making noise. The shower was tiny and low. At 170cm, I struggled to fit, the curtains stuck to me, and turning meant hitting the walls on two sides. It was horrible. If I could give zero stars, I would.

Breakfast was good, but I left disappointed. The rooms urgently need renovating and look like prison cells. The restaurant was too expensive for the small portions, the experience was only okay, and the service was awful.

We enjoyed a good espresso out on the terrace.
