We spent three weeks here for about €800, which felt well worth it. The area is lovely for a quiet break: there’s a little river nearby where you can sit peacefully, walking paths to choose from, canoe trips, and quiet French neighborhoods to wander through. The pitches are level, roomy and shaded by trees, and the place itself is calm. A restaurant event on some weekdays can make noise until 11 pm, so keep that in mind. Mikel and Charlot were friendly, relaxed and helpful, and I really enjoyed getting to know them. The restaurant food was a great surprise. Facilities are clean, with plenty of toilets, showers, dishwashing sinks and water points. There’s good Wi-Fi at the restaurant and a medium-sized playground for kids. A relaxed nature holiday with the basics done well.

There was plenty to do around the area, with lots of supermarkets open even on Sundays. Chauzon itself can be hard to get around in a large car because of the narrow streets, and sadly the bridge over the Ardèche damaged our car. The campsite was so quiet that it felt a little lifeless, though it was nice having space. Only a handful of pitches were occupied while we were there, alongside the small chalets. We had two tents and, despite the heat, found good shade under the trees. The café served food and drinks, and we spent many evenings there; they play music but close at 11. Toilet paper and soap were provided. The washrooms were clean, though the motion-activated lights sometimes went out while we were showering or using the toilet because there were so few people around. The toilets and showers were cramped, and the inward-opening toilet doors meant I had to squeeze past the toilet to get out.

The mobile homes were cozy and comfortable, and dogs are welcome. It’s a laid-back campsite right by the Ardèche, with a great location and really friendly hosts.

I’m spending my seventh Easter holiday here now, and it’s been a pleasure every time. It’s a lovely spot beside the Ardèche, and Eric le chef de place is a great guy.

A lovely campsite, and the owner is great.
