Le Baluchon

The owners were delightful and even let some very achy cyclists use their hot tub. From the road, the property doesn’t look like much, but inside it’s beautiful and surprisingly spacious, with a high standard throughout the rooms and the rest of the house. The evening meal and breakfast were both good, with plenty to eat. The house sits on a steep hillside, though you can reach it by car. When I arrived, I wasn’t quite sure what we’d booked for the night. Many thanks. 👍

The hosts were our favorite part. They clearly love welcoming people, and they’re wonderful at it. They give you space when you want it and spend time with you if that’s your preference. We shared dinner with them twice, and breakfast was included each morning, with fresh homemade food, local bakery bread and croissants. We stayed six nights in the Refuge room, which has two showers: four nights, then a few nights hiking elsewhere, then two more. It’s comfortable enough to spend the day relaxing in the gîtes, and there are plenty of hikes you can start without taking the car. The Fromagerie is less than a kilometer away. We’ll come back for the hosts and the comfort of the place.

On our cycling trip across the Pyrenees, this was the best place we stayed. The rooms were delightful, the owners were lovely, and the food was superb. The price was very reasonable too.

The views are fantastic and it’s a great place. Be brave on the road up to the house!
