Le Cilaos

The spa was lovely, and we got an hour free through a winter offer. The hotel was quiet despite its size, so we slept very peacefully. We booked a superior room for our honeymoon and the staff offered us a suite. It looked beautiful, but the humidity made it smell quite bad. There was a bath and shower, but no roof fan to move the air, and nothing could be done about it. We also paid for breakfast and were disappointed. On the second morning the eggs were barely cooked, and there weren't many other appealing choices. The location is very good, and the people were very nice. The heated pool was still too cold for us to stay in for more than a minute in winter.

The room had a stale, mouldy smell, so I kept the windows open and bought an air freshener. We also waited until 3 to get in, even though check-in was at 2. Breakfast was awful, I didn't dare try the eggs. They'd put a coffee machine and kettle in the room but no coffee or sugar. When I asked reception, they gave me just one sachet of each, not enough for two people over two nights. We did enjoy our stay, but the rooms need work and these things shouldn't be hard to fix. For what we got, it was extremely expensive.

It was hard to judge the breakfast since we left the breakfast room very quickly. Most guests seemed to be coughing, and that didn't feel well managed for the Corona period. The hotel was okay, but not worthy of four stars. Noise came through the walls clearly, even little things like someone plugging in a cord, and we could hear people talking. A simple door separated our room from the next one, which added to the noise.

The sauna and jacuzzi are free, just book a time at reception. The heated pool was unfortunately broken while we were there. Our superior room was spacious and very comfortable, and the staff were friendly. The hotel is nice, and its restaurant serves okay food.
