La Boule D'or - Auberge Creative

The old Chapel, now used as a bar and eating space, is breathtaking, beautifully preserved and converted, and well maintained. Clamecy's historic medieval center is just seconds away on foot, with local conveniences nearby, and the hotel is easy to reach. Our room was spotless, warm and comfortable, with a striking view, a comfortable bed, and a thoughtful mix of vintage and modern furnishings. Breakfast made with local ingredients was fresh and delicious. The staff gave us a warm welcome, introduced us to the hotel, and were friendly, knowledgeable about the area, and available for questions throughout our stay. We had a brilliant, memorable visit and would highly recommend it.

It was hard to find staff, and the Wi-Fi ranged from weak to nonexistent. Breakfast was minimal, though it did include eggs, and the fruit was past its use-by date. The former convent or abbey rooms had no air conditioning or fans, and ours was extremely hot in the evening and still very hot in the morning. To top it off, no restaurants were open on Mondays. Give Clamecy a miss if you can.

I spent a week at “La boule d’or” for my first ever artist residency, and it was a blast. I’m a French singer-songwriter based in Paris. Lena and Jamie were so welcoming, the space and rooms were great, and the food was fabulous. I spent much of my time writing songs and working with the other artists in the chapel, playing the lovely piano. The surrounding area is lovely, especially when the sun is out. I wish I could have stayed longer, and I'm grateful I got to be there. Definitely recommend it to artists looking for a quiet place to focus on a project ✨ X Billy

The bar at the back is in a great spot, with helpful staff and drinks at affordable prices. Breakfast was delicious too, and the food in general was great. The staff were friendly, the rooms clean and tidy, and the beds comfortable. La Boule d’Or Hotel & Bar exceeded my expectations. The peaceful, beautiful train ride from Paris is worth it for this destination. After a weekend here, you'll be planning your next booking on the ride home.
