Hotel de La Poste

Room 31, at the top of the house, was fantastic: much more than a bedroom, with a huge, gorgeous bathroom, a living room, and a small toilet. The skylight windows let in the cool night air, which was bliss. We slept so soundly, logs would have seemed restless. The restaurant was just as memorable. The food was amazing, fresh, and full of flavour, with unique recipes. I couldn't do the dishes justice by trying to describe them, so go and discover them for yourself. Culinary magic. Service was first class, friendly, and attentive.

We only came for dinner and didn't stay at the hotel. The food was amazing, and if you like cheese, you'll love the cheese buffet for dessert. The price was excellent, and the service was friendly and efficient. I can definitely recommend eating here when visiting Clamecy. Thanks to the staff for making our visit memorable!

We arrived without a booking fairly late, at 13.15, but the woman at reception was friendly and quickly found us a table. We got menus right away, then waited about 15-20 minutes before we could order. That wasn't too much of a problem. The fixed menu sounded tempting, so the three of us ordered four starters, followed by three? mains and three desserts. The frogs' legs were truly awful, with stodgy sauce and badly overcooked meat. Only the artichoke heart was reasonable. The snail pastry had good flavour but was stodgy too, the prawns were overcooked and tough, and the foie gras was just passable. The mains were worse. My faux fillet was tough, and the red wine sauce tasted like wine that had just been added, with no reduction or balance. The two veal minute steaks were tough, chewy, and inedible. We ate the morels and sent the rest back. The waitress offered something else, but we declined. One friend had had enough and cancelled her soufflé. We ate our desserts, but the pavlova was ordinary, and the peach tiramisu was canned fruit with cream and cacao. I left mine. When we told the Patron at payment, he shrugged and charged us the full amount. We wanted a nice lunch, but €170 for a very mediocre meal and 3 glasses of wine was simply too much. I wouldn't send anyone there, and we won't go back. Such a shame.

On a Monday, we went early for a meal at the only restaurant open in town. We'd just arrived and hadn't booked. The waitress was rude and wouldn't seat us without a booking, even though some tables weren't marked as reserved. No booking, no meal. Simple as that.
