La Cler’Hier

We stopped here on the way from the South of France to Calais, and it was such a lovely find. The property is beautiful and extensive, and the rooms are lovely too. Eric gave us a very warm welcome. We'd pre-ordered dinner, and sitting outside with a glass of champagne and four lovely courses was a treat. Breakfast was served outside as well, a great start to the onward journey. Simply lovely :)

There wasn't much to do nearby, though with a car you can visit a few places a couple of kilometres away. We also drove a couple of kilometres for dinner. The place itself was pretty and quite modern. It was very hot outside, but the room felt cool when we arrived. We thought we'd have air conditioning because there was a unit beside the door, but it was probably only for the main building, not the guest rooms. That was a bit annoying, since it got very warm again at night. Breakfast was basic: bread, jam, orange juice, and coffee. We hadn't expected much, but were still a little disappointed. Our child didn't really like it, so back in the room we gave him some of our own yoghurt. Maybe yoghurt and cereal could be added.

The owners stayed up late for our arrival, which made this an excellent late-night stop. The room was perfect, breakfast was lovely, and the owners were really helpful.

Just super. Eric is a great host and can prepare dinner if you let him know in advance. Or you can pick up wine, cheese, and meat at the local supermarket and eat outside in the rustic lean-to. Breakfast was great too. Simply lovely.
