Hôtel du Commerce

The room was clean, with nice towels, a thick bathrobe, and some effort put into the decor. But I paid €65 for a room with a toilet on the landing and a shower shared with other rooms. A private bathroom costs €90, and there’s no restaurant. My room was on the second floor, up a narrow staircase with no elevator, and sound carries badly between rooms. The mattress was spring-based. I flipped mine over and it felt better.

I found a live bedbug near the pillow on the bed at the Hôtel du Commerce in Cluny, and immediately took photos and videos. When I told management, they responded aggressively and accused me of bringing it myself. They called it a "well-oiled scam" and threatened to involve a lawyer. The manager even said that because I hadn’t left before 11:45 a.m., "it obviously didn't disturb my sleep." I was working from home that morning, then carefully checked all my belongings so I wouldn’t bring an infestation home. The room was uncomfortable too, with the toilet and bathroom on the landing unless you paid extra. After reading other reviews, I see others have complained about the dismissive welcome, hygiene, and very poor accommodations. I strongly advise against staying here. That response to a serious bedbug issue is unacceptable. I’ve filed an official complaint with Expedia and reserve the right to report the establishment to the DDPP (Departmental Directorate for the Protection of Populations).

I enjoyed wandering around Cluny at dusk and walking back to the hotel. It’s a friendly place in the heart of town. Renovations are underway, but the old-fashioned charm that brings back childhood memories still feels comfortable and pleasant.

The manager was always smiling, extremely pleasant, and welcoming. My room was simple but adequate, well kept, and very clean. The reception is a lovely decorated little room, though quite narrow. There are three flights of stairs to reach the room, which could be inconvenient. I was disappointed by the breakfast area and the small selection.
