B&B HOTEL Colmar Lumière

The reception staff were the one bright spot, kind and helpful. The hotel is very far away, the rooms are incredibly small, and breakfast was very inadequate. The rooms weren't cleaned properly either. Apart from the staff, it was a terrible hotel, and I definitely wouldn't recommend it.

I've stayed in many hotels while travelling, but I've never had such a bad experience or met a receptionist this unfriendly. We arrived at 12:20 p.m., and the reception was right in front of us. My daughter has been learning French for years and was excited to use it, so she greeted the receptionist in French. The woman gave us such a condescending look that my daughter switched to English and explained we had a reservation. We were very cold and politely asked if early check-in might be possible. The answer was a blunt “no.” We would have understood if she'd kindly said the room wasn't ready or was still being cleaned. Instead, the harsh reply really upset my daughter. We were exhausted, so we sat at an empty table and even fell asleep in the chairs. Later, a German couple arrived. The receptionist spoke German with them, was friendly and polite, and immediately gave them their room number. They went straight up. When we saw this, we returned to reception. Two more couples were ahead of us, and they also checked in and went directly to their rooms. I then spoke German and asked if we could check in too. She asked, “Oh, are you from Germany?” I said yes. As she processed our check-in, she sighed and said she couldn't manage it. A young man at reception offered to help and completed it immediately. The room was very clean and adequate, and breakfast was good, but the way we were treated upset both my daughter and me and affected our mood throughout the stay. I absolutely wouldn't recommend this hotel or stay here again. Management should talk to the slightly older female receptionist about welcoming guests and resolve this as soon as possible. With so many good qualities, the hotel staff should be much friendlier and more respectful.

We found a large insect in the room, and getting there was a hassle: the place is far from the center and even the nearest bus stop. The receptionist was very rude. She kept speaking French after we asked to use English, and when she pointed at her ear and scolded me, I got scared repeating my answer. Then she just shrugged. I thought the service was awful, and paying 100 euros for this stay felt like a foolish decision.

After a long day of work, arriving to smiling faces at reception makes such a difference. The staff are polite, well dressed, respectful, and clearly well trained. Everything is in its place, and the hotel feels so well kept that you want to leave it as clean as you found it. It’s my personal favorite when I stay in Colmar. I can’t thank everyone enough for the care they put in. Bravo!
