The room was spacious and quiet, and breakfast was plentiful. In the evening, we could unwind in the lounge with a bottle of wine. The hotel is charming and right in the old town. The man at reception was friendly and very helpful with parking, though the car park opposite was a bit of a nightmare: the spaces are big but awkward to get into.

Le Colombier is a beautifully restored 15th-century building that keeps its character while still being comfortable. Our suite was in a separate building, and next time we hope the weather’s warmer so we can enjoy its riverside terrace. The location is hard to beat, just steps from Petite Venise. Some of Colmar’s best restaurants were only a three-minute walk away, yet the hotel felt tucked away from the tourist crowds. The staff made the stay unforgettable from the start. Everyone greeted us warmly and gave attentive, personal service. When our first restaurant choices weren’t available, they helped with thoughtful alternatives instead of just handing us a list. They clearly take pride in their work, and it showed in every interaction.

We found the Alsace Wine Route villages an easy short drive away and managed to spend time in all of them in a day. Colmar itself is smaller and more quaint than Strasbourg, with lots of lovely shops and restaurants to explore. The hotel is a great base for the Alsace region, just a few steps from Le Petite Venise. The women looking after the hotel were warm, friendly, and professional throughout, from the front desk and property care to making a wonderful breakfast. Great service, a well-kept property, a central location, and good value. Highly recommended.

The room didn’t quite match what we’d expected from the online photos. Our Deluxe Double had dark green walls, a somewhat dark feel, and only a small window onto a shared courtyard terrace. A wall separated our part of the terrace from the neighbouring room, so it felt cramped, and there was no view. We had hoped for something warmer and more romantic. Still, for one night it was absolutely fine. The mattress was very comfortable and we slept well. The bathroom was a pleasant surprise, spacious and very clean, with a generous shower and a separate toilet. Everything seemed new. We were upgraded on arrival, and for a short stay the room was acceptable, though for a longer visit we’d have asked to move to a room closer to our expectations. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the location at the entrance to Colmar’s old town made it easy to explore on foot. There are parking spaces right in front, too.

The hotel is in a great location and the rooms are okay, but the staff were rude. Without telling us, they put us in a room in another building. It was tiny, unrenovated, and had just one small window. When we raised the issue, they insisted it was the room we’d booked, so we had to show our reservation again and point out that a better room was still available online. They didn’t apologize. In the end, we’d booked a Superior but got a Standard, with only a €14 discount off the listed price on the bill. The room itself was okay, but at €300 a night with breakfast, I expected a little more.
