Free parking and being near the center were the only good points for us. The apartment was filthy, run down, smelled bad, and the towels were awful. It was a borderline experience, and we were glad we’d brought cotton sleeping bags. The shower water was freezing. The thermometer said 22, though I doubt it even reached that; it felt seriously cold. There was no Wi-Fi, which should be standard these days, but this place didn’t meet any standard. The check-in point is nearby, but getting there by car means driving miles out of the way. The booking site gave one address, while the landlords waited at another. They were serious about leaving if guests didn’t arrive by 20:30. We helped two desperate guests who showed up at 21:00 and had to find another place. The landlords speak only French, and when you try English or German they just hang up. I travel a lot, and this was by far the worst accommodation I’ve ever had. I can’t understand how it’s listed on a booking site or where the good reviews come from.

We had a separate kitchen stocked with what we needed, a living room, and two bedrooms. The bathroom and toilet were separate too. Parking is available in the courtyard in front of the hotel, shared with the Ibis. It’s an excellent location, and the place is well equipped overall, with friendly staff. The bathroom has a tub under a sloping ceiling, so you can’t stand upright to shower and have to crouch. Aside from that, everything was very good.

The location was very good, and it was quiet, but I didn’t think it was worth the price. There isn’t a separate bathroom: the shower is in the bedroom, and the kitchen is where you brush your teeth. The kitchen itself is fairly well equipped. The host was flexible about when we arrived, but there was nowhere to leave our luggage on Sunday, so we had to walk all around Colmar with our suitcases.

It had the feel of student housing, and it reminded me a bit of my own student apartment. The location was very good, but cleanliness fell short. The bathroom smelled so bad we couldn’t use it. The skylights wouldn’t close, but couldn’t be opened any further either. I think we may just have been unlucky.

I never got to stay at the property. After I made the reservation, the host emailed to say they couldn’t accept it. I checked my messages the next day and found the email hadn’t counted as a valid cancellation. The full amount had been charged, and the host never got back to me to sort it out, even though I’d had to book another apartment in the meantime. Outrageous and unprofessional. Booking.com also failed to act as an intermediary. I don’t recommend a host with practices this abusive, whatever the apartment itself is like. The platform is great when everything goes smoothly, but useless when a problem comes up.
