We cycled from Orleans and arrived at 1:30, relying on the website’s listed 3pm closing time. The waiter tried to seat us, but then the owner or boss came over and was extremely rude, saying they were full despite at least 5 tables by the canal and both tables at the door being empty. They didn’t even offer drinks, just turned us away. After reading other similar poor reviews, we were glad we cycled back to Orleans to La Concurrence by the river. Its owner seated us happily at 2:30, even with a 3pm closing time. I wouldn’t waste the time or effort visiting this place.

The food was lovely, and all 10 of us enjoyed the 4 courses. The 34€ menu had a good range, though those of us who don’t like fish struggled to find a starter and gave up. The wine was lovely and reasonably priced, and even though we were a bit late starting, our fault, nobody rushed us. The waiter was the one real problem. He tried to be funny, came across as objectionable, and wasn’t helpful at all. We’d have been fine with average service, but this guy was awful. We’d definitely go back, just on a day he’s off.

Near the river, it’s a romantic, relaxing spot for a summer lunch. The food is fresh and tasty, though the service can be confusing, with several waitresses serving the same table. I’d recommend it.

A hidden gem for a special occasion, whether it’s romantic or a family meal. The decor and view are amazing, and there’s an interesting choice of food. For an ordinary meal, the portions are small, it’s a bit pricey, and the staff aren’t so friendly. Still, the location earns it 5 stars. Great desserts and cheese selection, and it can host group dinners of up to 80-90.
