Camping Les Sables Blancs

The most expensive hiker pitch I've had on the GR34 so far, but the worst experience overall. A big pitch, though the ground was rough and there was only a tiny patch of flat grass to pitch on. The weather was bad, and apparently the only indoor place to go, unless you spent money in the restaurant, was the laundry room. Honestly. They didn't offer any tables or chairs. The bathrooms were cramped, and in the morning you had to put up with the trumpeting noises of lots of old digestive systems going off at once. The price didn't match the experience.

I'll never book here again, and I wouldn't recommend it to British people. The manager said British people aren't welcome in France and threatened my husband, who uses a wheelchair. That says a lot about the sort of person he is.

This was our third visit to this wonderful campsite. There are good sized pitches, and the swimming pool and jacuzzi are free, though you need to book a time slot. The restaurant has great views across the bay, and the sanitary facilities are very good. It's about a 20 minute walk into town on footpaths and old railway tracks that are now walking and cycling paths.

The walk into town takes around 15-20 minutes and is well worth it for a look around the old walled island. The beach is only five minutes away, too. We got a warm welcome in English, which was nice, and the pitches were a good size, though bring your chocks. The facilities looked very new and were clean, with hot showers and toilets that had seats and paper. The pool was lovely and busy when we visited, but there was still plenty of room to swim and lots of sun loungers. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but it looked lovely and had a wonderful view. Would recommend.
