The room was large, with a comfortable bed and a nice bathroom, but the old, worn decor needs updating. It felt expensive for the quality. The reception area, bar and restaurant were pleasant, though the reception staff weren’t very helpful. You need a car because it’s too far from the center of Concarneau, and there’s no taxi service from town. Our key didn’t work the first time, and it stayed red even after the door unlocked.

The Ocean has a prime location, and with more attention to detail it could be great again. I’ve stayed several times over the years, but on my last visit the standards seemed to have slipped. The bar felt lifeless and was expensive, and somehow they ran out of beer on the first night. Vegetarian choices in the restaurant were very limited.

The staff were very pleasant and the food was good. Our room had no tea or coffee facilities, though. WiFi was available, but there were no English TV channels, so I had to use my Chromecast or Fire Stick.
