Hotel du Nord

The hotel is right in central Corte, and our studio was comfortable with excellent soundproofing. We stayed four nights after walking the Mare e Mare from Moriani, and the small, friendly place suited us well. A few things went wrong, though. We booked a 38m2 studio with a settee but were given a 28m2 one without it. We only noticed after a couple of days and didn't want to complain again or move. At check-in, have your booking details ready so you can check you got what you reserved. We also had trouble getting answers by email. Before our five-day trek, we asked whether we could leave luggage at the hotel and got no reply, so we brought it along. Luckily, leaving it there turned out to be fine. The website and a street sign said direct bookings included breakfast, but our email asking to confirm went unanswered too. When we arrived, we were told breakfast wasn't included with a studio. The website was partly changed the following day to clarify that.

A classic hotel with a really good breakfast and plenty of choice. The staff were friendly, helpful, and knew their stuff.

We got helpful tips from the hotel team about parking, food, things to do, and places to see, and they were lovely throughout. The hotel sits right in the middle of Corte, so stepping outside puts you straight into the bustle of the street. We spent two nights there and had a great time. Many thanks!

Corte left us disappointed too. The town had a strange feel, like it wanted tourists and resented them at the same time, and came across as a tourist trap. I much prefer Calvi. At the hotel, there was no elevator, so getting upstairs meant using the stairs. The owner stayed in the breakfast area with his newspaper, taking up a lot of space and watching people eat. It felt like having the police there to stop you taking a yogurt to your room. Yet elsewhere the place felt unsecured: people could walk in from the street while the front desk sat empty and the women there seemed passive and alone. I didn't feel they were doing anything to keep guests safe. The only time I saw anyone watching closely was at breakfast, to make sure you didn't take two bananas and used your manners.
