Maison de la Comtesse

We wanted a laid-back holiday, and this home with its two-foot-thick walls and turn-of-the-century feel suited us perfectly. Church bells ring every hour, which really takes you back to another era. Out in the backyard, the 90-foot sequoia is a gem. The pool wasn't open yet when we visited in early spring, but it looks like a lovely place to read and unwind. Maison La Comtesse is quiet, comfortable, clean, and elegant. Josh and Stephanie are gracious, helpful, and accommodating. They are new to the property and ambitious, working to preserve its architectural integrity and bring back the way things were done 100 years ago. They appreciate both solid craftsmanship and the finer details. Breakfast came with fresh-baked goods, fruit, and good coffee, and the bathrooms are new and spacious. It felt like the real France.

A peaceful little-town escape, away from crowds and traffic, with great nearby places for day trips. The hosts were incredibly welcoming, the breakfasts and dinners were superb, and the room and bed were very comfortable. Great value for a wonderful getaway.

We loved our three-night stay. The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the brand-new pool was clean and a big hit with our two children. Breakfast and dinner were excellent, with fresh orange juice and bread from the local boulangerie. Zoran and Mariette's passion for hospitality and food really comes through. They also love animals, yet still find time to make you feel at home and enjoy a good conversation over a glass of wine by the pool. The chambre d’hôtes and table d’hôtes, Maison de la Comtesse, is a beautiful and comfortable place to stay. The house itself is impressive, as is the massive 200-year-old American Sequioa in the garden. Enjoy the quiet of Cosne d’Allier, the vibes of Montluçon, and the beautiful medieval village of Hérrison. I really recommend a visit!

The pool and terrace were just what we needed after a long drive, and we had aperitifs by the pool before a spectacular dinner spread. Breakfast was delicious too, and set us up perfectly for the onward journey. Mariette and Zoran are a lovely, welcoming couple, and the house is beautiful. Our room was fabulous and really comfortable. We couldn't have asked for more and would definitely return if we get the chance. I highly recommend this chambre d’hôte.
