Au Domaine de la Pommeraye & Spa

We visited in August and really enjoyed the peaceful, rustic countryside, with plenty to do and eat nearby. Having a car made getting around easier, though the host said he’d been driving guests places. Breakfast included fresh croissants, bread, and fruit, which was lovely to see. Since we had to leave early, the owner kindly put together some breakfast items for us to take to our room.

The views and rooms were beautiful, and the design was lovely. We had a great massage and a fantastic host made the stay a pleasure. It’s a tucked-away little escape I’d recommend to anyone.

The owner was really friendly, and because it was low season we pretty much had the place to ourselves. We enjoyed our stay, though at this price I personally wouldn’t come back. A few changes could make it much better. The room water was easy to request, but it’s a basic need and should be topped up each day without asking. The spa is limited to a Finnish sauna and a hammam, and the hammam closes in the evening. There’s also no water fountain or machine there, which seems important for staying hydrated. Breakfast doesn’t start until 8:45, so we skipped it on two of our three days, once because we wanted an earlier start and once for an early airport transfer. The bread and pastries could be better. We found a boulangerie just 10 minutes away with excellent choices. Coffee could use an upgrade too, even a Nespresso machine would make a difference.

We spent three nights here, relaxing and walking a few of the trails. The rooms are very spacious and the beds are great, and the staff really make an effort to help you feel comfortable and welcome. The spa felt a bit quirky, and my massage wasn’t especially good, but we still had a really enjoyable stay.
