Le Puits Sainte Claire

We came as a couple for a yoga retreat and found a little haven of peace, with a setting that feels incredible in its small village. Laure was such a welcoming, attentive hostess, and the food was excellent, beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. Our room was comfortable, tastefully decorated, and had perfect bedding. The large pool was ideal for swimming. It really felt like a timeless stay, and I highly recommend the place! 🌞

Laure is incredibly attentive, and the whole place feels like a haven of peace and serenity. The big swimming pool is heated and very clean, with views over the courtyard on one side and the garden on the other. It’s lovely to read or eat in the shade of the trees. The house is large, and the guest area is bright, spacious, and tastefully decorated. My blue upstairs room was under the eaves but still roomy, with a bathroom that had a shower, bathtub, and toilet. The silence is a real bonus. The street is so quiet you can’t hear it, and I slept with the window open. There’s also a kitchen area where you can prepare meals. From the street, it’s impossible to tell what’s inside, but once through the gate, Laure greets you with a smile and such kindness in a lovely courtyard. And of course, the pool is the biggest plus.

The flower garden is lovely for relaxing in the peace and quiet, and the building itself is magnificent. We had a fantastic stay with friends at Puits Sainte Claire. There’s an indoor pool, a superb living room, and a pleasant, practical kitchen right next to it. All the bedrooms and bathrooms were beautiful and spotless. Laure was welcoming and helpful, and the sweet and savory breakfasts she made were a treat. We’ll definitely be back!

Laure gave us a warm welcome and a delicious homemade breakfast at this charming bed and breakfast. It was a delightful surprise and well worth the detour. The location between Niort and La Rochelle is ideal, and it’s a must-visit base for exploring the Marais Poitevin. I especially recommend the character-filled family room, which was perfect for two teenagers. We’ll be back.
