La Chartreuse du Maine

Back again at Le Maine, this time just the two of us after several earlier visits with our children. We stayed in La Cuisine d’Alice cottage, and Catherine and Maxence gave us the same warm welcome as before. We can’t wait to return. The hot weather made the lovely pool especially welcome, and the quiet surroundings were a pleasure. The cottage was beautifully decorated, spotless and had everything we needed. Cubjac is a handy base for day trips, and we found some excellent restaurants in nearby Périgueux for long lunches and dinners. Evenings were lovely, eating outdoors in our private garden or having a drink with the neighbours. It was another memorable holiday, with comfort, charm and warm hospitality. We’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a Dordogne getaway.

We enjoyed our week at La Maine so much that we added another night. The place has a lovely atmosphere, with original decor throughout, and the kitchen is well equipped. One of my most beautiful stays ever!

We spent nine days at La Chartreuse du Maine in May and had a great time. Catherine and Maxence welcomed us with flowers from the garden and lovely local produce in the fridge. The apartment and outdoor spaces were beautiful, with a real eye for quality and style in everything from the furniture to the towels and bed linen. The garden and pool area were amazing too. We’d never been to the Périgord before, but we’ll definitely come back. Maxence shared great tips on places to see, and do borrow his map of the area. Catherine also arranged a visit to a local truffle farm and a private cooking lesson, which was great fun. One downside is that there aren’t any restaurants within walking distance. Still, the peaceful feel and atmosphere more than made up for that. We can’t recommend the place enough.

The whole area is well placed for visiting Sarlat, Mesmin, Hautefort, Periguex and more. The private woodlands were a nice touch, and the pool was great. Alice’s kitchen had lots of character and was very clean. Catherine and Max were welcoming and spoke great English, despite my very limited French. They know the area well and pointed out some real hidden gems. The two dogs are lovely and leave you in peace. The German shepherd is playful, while the Aussie is laid back and mostly wants to play ball. Just stayed here this month, and it was tres bien. Book direct through their website to save some money, rather than using AirBnB.
