Hôtel Bains Sarrailh

The spa was a pleasant experience, and we return regularly. Staff are smiling, kind, and attentive, helping make the stay enjoyable. The room was pleasant, and breakfast offered a wide selection, with excellent lunches too. The establishment is very well maintained and ideally placed in central Dax, opposite the hot springs. We highly recommend it.

I paid €200 for a room for two during Dax Festival, but a problem forced me to cancel. I asked for a refund and got no reply. Considering the revenue they must have made that day, I would have appreciated at least a response, even if it was negative. I won’t book there again and wouldn’t recommend the place.

The night porter was great, and the room was clean. But after a long day of driving, I’d hoped to rest, and instead had to deal with the heat, mosquitoes, and noisy ventilation. There weren’t proper pillows, just a 1940s-style bolster for two people, which wasn’t practical. The room was gloomy, and the bathroom looked old-fashioned, with old-style grout and tiles. Maybe this would be acceptable for 40 euros, but at 66 euros it felt like highway robbery. I slept badly before another 10-hour drive the next day.

At €180 a night during the holidays, the price is far too high for a small, outdated standard room, and the service doesn’t match it. Check-out is at 11:00 AM, yet at 11:02 AM the receptionist called in a very unpleasant tone, told me to leave immediately, and hung up. The same person seemed irritated and unpleasant from start to finish, whether answering questions by phone before I arrived, greeting me on arrival, or dealing with me during the stay. It almost made me feel like I should apologize for being there. She seemed to have no desire to see guests or do this job.
