We couldn't get breakfast even though we'd booked it, because we hadn't mentioned that we wanted it when we arrived. The floor wasn't clean, and in the morning we saw a cockroach climbing up the wall. The room felt like a sauna without air conditioning, and it wasn't ready until 1 pm, even though it was 11 am when we got there. The welcome was lukewarm, almost mystical.

The hotel is in a perfect spot, and the cleanliness was satisfactory. The rooms are decent for the price, with no extras, but there's no air conditioning or even a spare fan. In Dax in the middle of summer, asking for one doesn't seem unreasonable. The welcome can be a little disconcerting at first. You get used to the owner's occasional mood swings, though. There's nothing malicious about them.
