Hotel Aguado

The room was a bit dated, though spotless, and the continental breakfast had a good range of choices. The staff were all very friendly, and we'd visit again. It's about a 26-minute walk from the ferry terminal. The hotel looks out over the beach, so the location is great.

We'd stayed here twice before, but this visit left us more disappointed. We've used hundreds of hotels around Europe, from one to five stars, and this place has potential, though it misses the mark on some important things. The room and hotel were clean, quiet, and had a comfortable bed. The location is great for walking to restaurants, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and the sink and shower had good water pressure. When we asked to get our bikes from storage on the morning we left, though, an older lady seemed reluctant to help. The rooms feel tired and could use remodeling. The lift is tiny, with room for no more than two people, and painfully slow to close. It feels dark and claustrophobic, and the thought of getting stuck in it is worrying, since you'd have to stand there until help arrived. The Wi-Fi kept fading out, and the breakfast room was dark and depressing. The buffet was the worst we've had during six weeks in France. Both kinds of coffee tasted like dishwater and smelled awful, so we couldn't drink either. Bring your own if you want decent coffee with breakfast. There's no air conditioning. That might be fine, except seagulls tried to get into our room through the open window, cigarette smoke drifted in from people smoking below, and there was loud partying outside our window. We don't think we'd stay here again.

The location is very central, and if you're bringing a classic car there's a fantastic locked garage just around the corner that you can book. Staff were charming and helpful, and the rooms facing the sea have a lovely view. The room only gets four stars from me because the bathroom isn't up to date, though it is clean and functional. I'd recommend it for the view, the staff, and the location.

Our room was generously sized, with a compact, modern bathroom that was spotless. I loved the drench shower. The in-room drinks supplies were good and topped up each morning, and the fridge looked clean and fine for casual use. Breakfast was a good continental spread, self-serve, and the food was checked and replenished at least twice. The receptionists and cleaning staff were all helpful, especially the night receptionist. I really enjoyed my few days here. The hotel sits by the promenade, which is a great location, but it's built over a main road. Late-night laps by bikers can disturb your sleep, and there can be noise when the funfair is open or events are happening on the promenade. That's not the hotel's fault, but it can be an issue.
