Pollet is named after the neighbourhood, the restaurant told me. It has a friendly feel, with tables close together but still comfortable. Our neighbours chatted with us, and I noticed diners talking with people at nearby tables too. A small, well-behaved dog was warmly welcomed by both diners and the waitress, who replied “bien sur” when its owners asked if they could bring her in. The traditional French food reminded me of childhood holidays in Normandy, simple but delicious. We had Filet de bœuf sauce poivron, sole meunier, lyonnaise potatoes, sweet soufflés flavoured with Calvados and Normandy cheeses. There’s a well-priced menu of the day as well as more choice on the à la carte menu. I also liked the wine of the month. We chose a bottle of red from Luberon that went perfectly with the meal, and probably wouldn’t have picked otherwise.

The atmosphere was great, with friendly service and a cosy seating area. Most of our food was good, especially the fish in caviar white sauce with seared scallops. The baked camembert, though, was far too salty to eat, so we had to waste it.

The service felt cold, as others have mentioned. They also wrote our bill on the table and left it there, which was odd. There was no English menu, and they didn’t try to explain the dishes. Everything was only listed on a board. For a restaurant in the Michelin guide, it was very expensive. We’ve eaten at other places in the guide and outside it where the food was much better for the money. A basic steak was 33 euros, like something you could get in a pub, and the fish croquettes with salad were 10 or 12, nothing special. Some of the other dishes looked more elaborate, but still didn’t justify the prices. In tourist cities in the south of France, we’ve had meals at half the price and twice as good.

The food was full of flavour and well presented, though it wasn’t cheap. We’d definitely come back and highly recommend it. We were welcomed warmly, and English is spoken if needed. The place was clean and friendly, with plenty of French people clearly enjoying lunch. My wife had salmon and rice, while I tucked into the hot fruits de mare. The puddings were to die for.

My favorite restaurant in dieppe after laurent. The food is généreuse, and you can have it however you want. I’ve never been disappointed. It’s a small place, so you need to book ahead.
