Auberge de l'escargot d'or

Even though we visited off season and the restaurant was closed, they still made us a lovely dinner for just the two of us. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable, and breakfast was really good, with much more than the usual French breakfast. A very nice hotel with good service.

The room was freezing and damp, even though it wasn't that cold or humid outside. Then I saw the only towel in the room. It looked like it hadn't been washed in a month and smelled like a Sumo wrestler had just used it. I wish I were joking. Earlier, on the first morning, the roomkeeper asked me to leave my key because they didn't have a spare for my room. When I got back at 11 at night, the key was nowhere to be found. Nobody was inside, so I called out from outside until the roomkeeper opened her window and told me to shut up. She came down and handed me the key without a word or an apology. Apparently I was wrong to wake her. I was at least relieved that none of my things had disappeared. I stayed two nights. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Really top-notch.
