I felt right at home at Hotel Maleteste. Anne, the owner, made sure I was well looked after, while I still had plenty of independence to explore Dijon. It's on a quiet little street, with most sights and lots of restaurants within easy walking distance. The free shuttle also stops right by the hotel. My apartment was huge, with spacious bedrooms, sofa beds, and lovely French rustic decor. The firm mattress and shutters meant I slept really well, and there were extra pillows and plenty of towels that were changed regularly. There's also a pretty courtyard garden and three TVs, which came in handy for watching the Olympics. The kitchen had all the dishes, cutlery, pans, and wine glasses you might need if you wanted to cook. Anne also kept the fridge supplied with milk and fizzy water and offered a good choice of tea and coffee. I ate out instead, since Dijon is known for its food. It was a relaxing, special holiday, and I'd definitely return and recommend it.

The bathroom was downstairs in an open area, and this place felt like an old building that hadn't been made suitable for a hotel. Don't be fooled by the free parking, getting to the entrance felt like you needed to arrive on horseback. They only took cash, even though my card worked everywhere else. This was a horrible experience and wasn't worth even 50 euros.

The spacious, homely interior of this 15th-century building was a welcome change from the cramped rooms you often get in newer hotels. It's a peaceful, private spot, with a lovely courtyard and lots of greenery. Great location too. I'd recommend it.

We had to cancel our reservation in March, so we never got to stay. This review is about the hotel's failure or unwillingness to refund what we'd paid. I emailed repeatedly and got no response, so I had to turn to the credit card company to recover the money.
