ibis Styles Dijon Central

Breakfast was brilliant: the bread and cheese were lovely, and there was plenty of cold meat, pastries, cereal, and local treats like nonnettes. They even had a decent English Breakfast tea, so I didn't need the emergency supplies I usually bring. The staff were helpful, professional, friendly, and happy to speak English, which made us feel welcome even though we're self-conscious about our French. My wife and I were in Burgundy for art, wine, cheese, and beer, and this hotel made an excellent base. It's a lovely-looking art nouveau building, superbly located near the station on the old town side, close to the sights and restaurants. We took trains for day trips to Besancon, Dole, and Chalon-sur-Saone, and the minibus pickup for our group wine tasting was nearby. Our room was clean, spacious for its type, and quiet. The only minor issue was that we wished the window restrainer allowed it to open further, though I suspect some legislation governs that. I use Accor hotels a lot for work across their brands and am a member, but this Ibis Styles, Dijon Central is the best hotel in the brand I've stayed at.

The underground car park costs a reasonable 10eur per day. Staff were very friendly and got us milk when we noticed there wasn't any at the coffee station. It would have been useful to have a sign showing when tea bags were available, as they were taken away at night. The facilities were surprisingly modern for a historic building, and the shower was powerful.

The hotel was nice overall and in a good spot. A few staff members came across as unpleasant and unwelcoming. The New Year’s dinner cost a lot without being anything special. The meat was the only tasty part, and the kids’ menu was poor and not tasty either.

I keep coming back every year and have always been happy with my stay. The staff are kind and helpful, and the rooms are quiet, clean, and have really comfortable beds. Breakfast is a highlight too, with fresh bread, pastries, freshly squeezed orange juice, and plenty of other good options. It’s also just steps from the high street and some great restaurants. I’d happily recommend it.
