We came across the restaurant by accident while out with two friends, and the meal was fantastic. The owner, Mortimer, was brilliant, welcoming, and entertaining. We’d definitely come back if we’re in the area again. Thank you, Mortimer!

Dinard is a lovely town, and our five-night stay in mid-August was reasonably priced. The coffee and breakfast were good, and the room was okay, but the shower cubicle was tiny. The shower head had to be left still or it fell off the wall, and the toilet smelled of stale urine and needed a thorough clean around the rim. We weren’t told when booking that the bar and restaurant would be closed during our stay. That felt misleading from Monsieur Basil Fawlty, the proprietor. I suppose at that price you get what you pay for.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, and breakfast was good. It’s also close to the city centre. A lovely place to stay.

After a 15 km walk, we gave up on getting our keys and left, worn down by the host’s nonchalance. We arrived on Sunday and waited outside until 3:02 PM before being allowed into the hotel. We were told that 3 PM is later in Brittany. The manager then came back and sat near us, chatting about the weather as though we were friends without even saying hello. He also criticized us for booking through Booking.com and explained that Sunday was his special day. The overfamiliar way he addressed us by our first names, along with his reminder that we should favor working-class restaurants over welcoming tourists, made us uncomfortable. The people with me felt the same. The hotel is poorly soundproofed, and breakfast starting at 9 AM doesn’t work for hikers. We agree with the negative comments about the hotel and manager, and wouldn’t recommend staying here.

We happened upon this small, working-class restaurant for dinner and liked the menu. The portions were generous, and there was plenty of outdoor seating. The owner and staff were very pleasant. I’d recommend it.
