Domaine de Presle Saumur, The Originals Relais

The location is very convenient, but we were shocked and upset by how hostile the owner made our stay. She was rude from the start and yelled at us for having cheese and wine outside our room. We made it clear how upset we were, and she didn't apologize. The rooms were outdated and smelled of chemicals, which triggered an allergy in one of the kids. We had booked a room in the main building, but she put us in separate buildings, with the kids apart from their parents. If you don't want this to spoil your vacation, stay away.

The staff were kind, polite, and helpful, especially the woman at reception. But I wouldn't recommend staying here, and I wouldn't come back. We were offered a trailer that I think was about 8 square meters. It was much smaller than the pictures suggested, including the bathroom, and everything was packed so tightly that my husband and I got several bruises. In July it was very hot inside, with no working fan, just a broken one with wobbly legs. There were loads of insects in the bed and shower. The towel had mold on it, and we got only one very small shampoo, shower gel, and soap. There were no tea or coffee facilities. I had mainly booked because of the swimming pool, but even on sunny days the water stayed too cold to use throughout our stay. There is a lake and two ponies.

We didn't enjoy our stay at Domaine de Presle and wouldn't return. There was no toilet roll in the room, and cobwebs were lying around. The receptionist asked if we'd like dinner at the hotel restaurant, so we arranged to eat there at 8pm. When we arrived, they didn't know about the reservation and said they couldn't seat us. Then they tried to charge us for a breakfast we hadn't eaten. Very disappointing.

The food was nice, though the portions were small and it was overpriced. The converted outbuildings were nicely done and had a great shower, but they got too hot, with no windows or air conditioning. We had to sleep with the patio door open just to breathe. It's a beautiful place, but poor value for money. There weren't enough staff, and they were rude when stressed, though they spoke good English.
