The nearby beach was the one good thing about this overpriced hotel. I was checked in and registered at the 4-star property, then sent to the adjoining 3-star one. Nobody explained where the room was, just handed me a key card and left me to find it myself. The reception staff seemed stressed, unfriendly, unhelpful, and never smiled. My room wasn't cleaned, the bed wasn't made, and the towels weren't replaced. This place didn't deserve even a 3-star rating.

Douarnenez itself was a lovely visit, but the hotel had plenty of downsides. The rooms were very expensive, and for a 4-star place they needed some improvements. There were no slippers, bathrobe, or sanitary kit. We paid extra for a sea-view room, but the window was so dirty we couldn't see the sea. We also had a spa booking, but arranging a time that suited us was difficult. They set the slots themselves and wouldn't or couldn't change them to fit our schedule.

Our balcony looked out over an amazing view, and the beach below was fabulous and unspoilt. The spa pool was wonderful, filled with minerals and all that. The one letdown was that dinner wasn't available any evening. It seemed to be because of coach party bookings.

The staff were nice and breakfast was good. The rooms are spacious, though the ones without a sea view are behind the main hotel. The pictures on the room keys felt out of step with the times 😕
