Mercure Dunkerque Centre Gare

The breakfast was lovely, with lots of breads, cheeses and pancakes with different toppings, plus hot food cooked just right. The rooms were spotless, which matters to me as I’m fussy, and I had no complaints. From the moment we arrived, everyone made us feel welcome and special. The front desk staff were extremely polite, offered free bottled water, and there was a welcome drink in our room. It was my birthday, and they had folded the towels into a birthday cake, a really nice extra touch. There’s an underground car park, and the lift goes straight up to the hotel reception. My only comments are that basic rooms don’t have a fridge and there are no irons in the rooms, which I’d expect in a 4* hotel. We were only there for one night, so the fridge wasn’t an issue, and with everything else being perfect, I’d still come back.

We had a great breakfast thanks to Hussein, who was super helpful and kept the refills coming smoothly. The staff made this a fantastic little family break. Yannick handled communications, then Ophelie gave us a warm welcome and was also wonderful at the bar, along with David. They were friendly, helpful and very professional.

At around 15:00 on Dec. 27, 2025, I went to check in at mercure dunkerque center gare. The man at the corner bar/reception seemed annoyed as soon as I didn’t realize the reception was at the bar. I politely apologized, but he rolled his eyes and was strict and unfriendly, making me feel unwelcome. While he was checking rooms online for me, a group of guests came in through the main door. He looked clearly irritated and quietly talked to himself in French. I couldn’t understand what he was saying, but it felt like he wasn’t happy to see more guests. I told him to cancel my inquiry because he was being disrespectful to me and to the others too. Staff like this are very bad for the company’s image.

The rooms are clean and I liked the style. It’s close to the business and food centre, and about 10 minutes from dunkerque railway station. There are shops, a food market and the side beach along the way.
