The hotel is fab. Just settle into the off-grid feel, relax, and enjoy yourself. And do arrive by train from Nice.

The place looks pretty ordinary from the outside, but it’s definitely worth a visit. We had a great view over the fortress and river, and the local food was delicious. The staff were lovely, and the chefs often came out to ask how guests liked their meals. Service was impeccable and everything was very clean. Definitely the best restaurant in the area!

We had a very bad stay at the Vauban. The rooms were outdated, there was no housekeeping at all during our three days, and both service and communication were practically nonexistent. Reservations were handled badly, repeated three times, and the reception was disorganized. Worst of all, they changed the entry code without telling us. We were locked out for 45 minutes on a Sunday at 10 p.m., with no way to reach the managers. Honestly, avoid it. An Airbnb would have been more comfortable, cheaper, and better managed communication-wise.

The location is exceptional, with a view of the citadel and old village. Rooms were comfortable, quiet, and clean, and parking nearby was fairly easy. We got a warm, attentive welcome, with smiles and friendly conversation, and the meal was excellent, made with very good produce and generous portions. It’s a hotel full of history, which the staff are happy to share. A great place!
