Good spot, though the room was small, the bathroom shared, and breakfast poor.

Dinner was good, trout with rice and tomato, followed by ice cream. The guesthouse sits in a magical little alley across from the church, though the terrace was closed. We were the only guests. The rooms were comfortable, but the welcome felt unfriendly. Nobody asked how we were or where we were headed, and we barely saw the owner. Breakfast was very basic, with industrial brioche and no hot chocolate for my son. That lack of friendliness was a shame, especially since it’s not what we’re used to on the trail.

Dinner on the terrace overlooking the square was excellent, and it seemed to make plenty of people envious, since dinner is only included with half-board. The trout was beautifully cooked, the cheeses were excellent, and the chocolate mousse was perfect. We had a warm, attentive welcome and very nice rooms looking onto the church square. The spacious bathroom was shared with one other double room, but luckily that room was unoccupied. Sheets and lovely towels were included, which was a nice touch. A small yogurt at breakfast would have been welcome. Still, a very pleasant stay.

We stopped for coffee with our children and dog. Thanks for the dog bar! The manager gave us such a warm, friendly welcome, and the terrace overlooking the pretty chapel of Estaing was a lovely bonus.
