La Gabetière

After a long drive, this was just the right place to stop. It’s an absolutely charming old building from the 16th century, with modern amenities and parking right inside. The man was so accommodating, even finding me a little yogurt so I could take my pills. We were really glad to find this gem.

The garden and staff were okay, and breakfast was standard for a one star hotel. But our night was a nightmare. My husband and I picked this hotel because of the good reviews, then ended up in room number 6, which was probably the broom closet. It was dark and damp, the sheets felt damp too, and the bathroom was distressing. There was even hair from a previous guest in the sink drawer. What a pity.

We’re definitely coming back. It’s a quaint, charming hotel, and the proprietress is amazing, chatty, friendly, and helpful. It’s a really great place for dogs too.

Doggies are welcome, which matters to me. Inside, the old house features have been modernly renovated as far as possible, and the feeling reminded me of an ancient French castle. The gentleman behind the desk was lovely, and the whole countryside charm made us fall a little bit in love with the place. Whenever I’m driving across the Lyon area, I’d like to stay here, with no other place in mind. Really lovely countryside hotel.
