We reached the property at 10:05 after a really difficult travel day, and found the gate shut and the place dark. It felt downright scary. When I called, someone answered sounding sleepy and spoke dryly and rudely: they were closed, nobody was there, and there was nothing they could do. We had to scramble for another hotel late at night, exhausted after all the stress. We'd diverted to Lille because of the bomb scare in Paris and had booked this place. We told them we were struggling and would arrive around 10pm. I only got a standard reply saying they closed at 10, with no further word that they shut right on the dot or would wait for us. In all my years of travelling, no hotel or property had ever left me out on the street like that. If they don't want to welcome guests or help with their needs, they shouldn't be in hospitality. Their behavior was shameful and reproachable.

We stopped at this lovely hotel during a Battlefield Tour in Lille, and the staff and owner were so nice and welcoming. The rooms were comfortable and spacious, and we had a nice breakfast before heading out on the tours.

The bar has more whiskeys than there are rooms, and the beer on tap is good and cheap. All the shops we wanted were close by, and there were superchargers for my electric car at the kiabi around the corner. It's a nice basic hotel. The calm hotel dog greeted us looking for a hug, and the staff were very nice. There isn't a kettle or coffee machine in the rooms, but they'll make you coffee or tea if you ask, as long as they're there.

We had booked a night here, but couldn't get inside when we arrived. The door notice said they were closed, and the person we spoke with repeated that without an apology or any alternative. We had explained our situation, so it was inexcusable that they didn't take it into account. It showed shameful disregard for guests' well-being, and we wouldn't recommend booking here under any circumstances. Our journey had been made extremely difficult by the Paris bomb scare, with trains and flights shut down. Even so, we managed to get tickets to Lille and make a booking at this hotel, only to find it closed. Shame on you guys!!

This has been our base for WW1 battlefield trips in Northern France and Belgium. We've stayed here four times now, four nights on each visit. It's a lovely family-run hotel with an excellent breakfast, highly recommended 👍👍
