Odalys Chalet Jardin d'Hiver

The apartment itself was very nice, which makes the rest of this experience all the more frustrating. We had booked through Odalys for 14 people plus 3 babies. At booking, the owner supplied a changing table and high chairs, so we understood that the arrangement had been agreed. When we arrived, the owner, posing as the concierge, said we weren’t within the limit because the chalet was for 14 and there were 17 of us. We reminded him that we’d disclosed the babies when booking and that their equipment was already there. He said he would check with the owner, although he was the owner himself, and get back to us. A few hours later he returned with a waiver for us to sign and demanded €580 in cash for the three babies, supposedly because of the extra people. He said he couldn’t give us an invoice. Afraid of being left without a place to stay, we paid. We’d also paid Odalys for the rental and a cleaning package for peace of mind. The day before we left, he told us cleaning wasn’t included. We showed him the Odalys email, but he wouldn’t accept it as proof and offered to “offer” us the cleaning. On departure morning, his wife came to check the chalet and was surprised it hadn’t been cleaned. We explained what her husband had said the day before, but she still didn’t believe us. We’d handed over two checks on arrival, a €1500 security deposit and a €300 deposit. She said the owner would check with Odalys because the email wasn’t proof we’d paid for cleaning, even though it clearly said so in writing, and kept both checks. Charging €580 in cash for three babies, for just two high chairs and a changing table, is outrageous. They’re thieves and liars.
