Domaine de Fontenay

There was room for everyone, and our host was attentive, full of good ideas, and thoughtful about the service. We made so many lovely memories with friends: long meals at the château, river swims with music and birdsong nearby, drinks on the terrace, chats by the fire, naps under the trees, horseback riding and kayaking. The château is in a small village in the Sarthe region, but it’s easy to get to and the train station is really close. We had a fantastic weekend, and I can also see it working well for corporate seminars. See you soon!

The riverside café deserves a special mention, and Louis-Henri was delightful, flexible, and ready to help with anything we needed. He recommended a local caterer who was excellent too. I celebrated my 30th birthday here with 35 friends, and the whole event went perfectly. Domaine de Fontenay is a splendid venue for a group, comfortable even with so many people, tastefully decorated, and beautifully renovated. It’s an ideal spot for a group event!

The family reunion had just the convivial feel we hoped for, with everyone gathering by the fireplace and a digestif keeping the celebrations going. It’s a historic place, but it has all the modern comforts of home.

The mattresses made for a truly restful night, and the warm welcome had us feeling at home. I loved swimming in the nearby Vègre River, and the barbecue was great for sharing time with family or friends. This charming, splendid castle was a fantastic discovery. It has a peaceful, timeless feel, and I left feeling completely refreshed. I had a wonderful stay, it was fabulous!
