Hotel Le Continental

We arrived at 3 a.m. after failing to find another available hotel, and the receptionist was kind and friendly. It was a relief that she spoke English. The room was clean and comfortable enough, and the staff were very helpful.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were polite and helpful. There's also a lovely park and lake two minutes away, well worth a visit. But the listing's claim of two restaurants and a bar isn't true. Those restaurants are separate businesses, and either they were closed or they wouldn't let us in with our dog, despite the hotel being dog friendly.

We hadn't planned to stop in Forges-les-eaux, but we really liked the town and hope to return for longer. The buffet at the hotel up the street was incredible, a highlight of our trip so far. The hotel staff were amazing too, helping us enormously when we ran into trouble with our rental car.

The staff were pleasant, and the room was what you'd expect in a converted property: basic, clean, neat, and tidy, though never likely to have the crisp modern look of a purpose-built hotel. There's no air conditioning. But the main issue is that there is NO restaurant in the hotel, despite descriptions listing two. I booked because of that, and limited mobility makes the actual options difficult: they're in the Casino, 400 m across the main road and uphill. That also means no easy drink at a bar before heading straight back to the room. The hotel's reply hasn't fixed the misleading claim. The Bistro is inside the Casino, where you need a passport to enter, and the other restaurant is in another hotel. By that logic, they could claim the local McDonald's is their restaurant.
