I really enjoyed this hotel. My room was roomy, nicely decorated, and looked over the pretty courtyard. Everything was very clean, the staff were friendly, and the little bar was a nice spot. The location is perfect, close to the beach and main shopping street. The only issue was the broken room safe, but I could use the one at reception.

The location is close to the beach, good restaurants, and patisseries, and we had a very clean, spacious room that seemed recently renovated. We stayed for a week and it was one of my best holiday stays. The hotel has a pool with a spa and hammam, plus a comfortable bar and incredibly kind, attentive staff. Its courtyard gives the place a communal feel, and I imagine summer would be lovely here. I'd highly recommend the Grand Hotel Des Bains as one of the best stays in La Rochelle.

Good value, with a great location, clean rooms, a nice lounge, and lovely staff.

The staff were very kind, though reception didn't speak any English. A few minutes of pantomime and everything was sorted, so learn a couple of French words! There's free parking 100 meters from the hotel near the beach. The courtyard is amazing for outdoor breakfast, and the renovated rooms feel luxurious and modern. I can't believe this is a 2 star hotel. It's definitely the best 2 star stay I've had. Absolutely recommend.

8/10
It's well situated and nice and quiet, but the Wi-Fi is a real nuisance. It kept logging me out, and getting back in meant dealing with a complicated username and password. This was our second stay in a superior plus room. In room No1, I fell in the shower. The base isn't all one level, and the porcelain gets too slippery after my wife has showered and washed her hair. The other section has non-slip tiles, though it slopes a little.
