Gîte Chevannes

We had booked two nights and were given two keys so we could come and go, but no key for the main door. When we returned at 4 a.m. on the second night, it was locked, and we couldn't get into our room. We ended up driving to a relative's house to find somewhere to sleep. We tried contacting the guesthouse on the way, but got no response. The next day, the host criticized us for not asking about the front door. We reminded him that we'd returned without trouble after dinner the previous evening. He then mentioned an 11 p.m. access rule that wasn't in the welcome booklet. He said he opened the door as soon as we called, though I couldn't know that, since he didn't answer or call me back, even though I'd given him my number when we arrived. He refused compensation for the lost night and the hassle of being locked out in the middle of the night. I'd paid in full before arriving, so there was nothing I could do then. The setting was pleasant and breakfast was good, but the customer experience was deplorable. Locking guests out without giving them all the keys they need to get in or out is bizarre. The whole thing showed a real lack of professionalism and empathy.

Even arriving just before 11 p.m., I was served an excellent three-course meal. Breakfast was just as good, and afterward I could explore the beautiful scenery. The hosts were incredibly kind and seemed to anticipate what I needed. It's a beautifully furnished manor in a rural idyll, with a pool too. Well worth a detour on the way to another destination. I'll definitely be back.

The food was delicious, and we really enjoyed the wine tasting. The owners were caring and attentive, and even had little touches for our 9-year-old daughter. Our room was perfect, with really good bedding, and the house was spotless. We had a wonderful stay in a beautiful, relaxing setting, and the welcome was perfect. The host was very attentive, and breakfast was excellent. The rooms were perfectly comfortable, and the pool made for a relaxing spot. Check-in at 5 p.m. felt a bit late and wasn't flexible, and there aren't many restaurants nearby. The host does serve food, though we didn't try it.
