Hôtel Nougier

The hotel was clean, with a lovely bathroom and a comfortable bed, and the staff were friendly when someone was around. At times the place seemed deserted, though. It was very cold and there was no heating. Breakfast was grossly overpriced: €13 for a croissant, a stale piece of bread, tea or coffee, and a few cereals just wasn't worth it.

The wine list was good, with tasty NV champagne and a thoughtful selection of half bottles, and dinner for three came to just €200, which felt like excellent value. The menu was well considered, with traditional French cooking given a few twists that kept it interesting without losing its character. The dishes were put together very competently, and the waiter was truly excellent, very attentive. I'd definitely go again.

The room was nice and clean, and the pool was beautiful, but I’m sure I won’t return. We arrived to find Hotel Nougier closed without any warning, so we had to wait several hours to check in. Dinner service was poor too. Our waiter was unkind and didn’t know the dishes well. He thought a dish contained cashews when it actually had peanuts, and my brother had an allergic reaction. There was no compensation, and, worse, nobody showed any care toward him. I’m not a picky person, but I expected much more from my stay.

We only ate at the restaurant and didn't stay at the hotel, so this is just about the meal. The four-course dinner was cooked very well and portions were just right. Classic French dishes like foie gras, canard, and souffle were all prepared professionally and tasted great. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. The wine list had interesting options at reasonable prices. It definitely deserves its “bib gourmand” from Michelin.
