Le Mas Jorel

It felt like staying in the dream house I’d imagined: a bright, spacious Provençal home tucked into greenery, with garden nooks, a hammock, a pool, sofas, a fountain, and a fireplace in the hall. From the open terrace, we watched the Luberon mountains and valley, and the sunrise came right through our bedroom window. Seeing that huge red sun rise through the early morning haze was wonderful. There’s also a lovely hidden path nearby through pine and lavender on bright red earth. The hosts, Mark and Veronika, are well-travelled and full of surprises, including a map of lesser-known places. Breakfast at the shared table brought guests from all over the world together, and it was easy to chat and swap discoveries. It felt like coming home. I’d happily return for longer, and could imagine settling here during a sabbatical to write a book.

We’d love to come back. The house is lovely, its Luberon setting is fantastic, and Marc and Véronique are very kind. Marc also pointed us toward lots of things to do nearby, which was a big help.

There are so many relaxing places to settle in, from a hammock or the shady garden by the fountain to a sunny spot beside the great pool. Our room was beautiful, and the house has a warm feeling throughout, right down to the small decorative details and the broad view over the wooded park. Marc greeted us very warmly with a refreshing drink on the terrace facing the Luberon mountains. The owners can suggest good restaurants and places to visit, and breakfast was a real treat. We were finally somewhere that suited us completely. If you want time to enjoy the house and explore the region, take at least a week off work.

The owners really know how to look after their guests, and Marc is a gold mine of local knowledge in a region famous for its ochre mines. It’s an enchanting place in a very good location. Thank you for making the stay so memorable.
