Holiday Inn Express Strasbourg - Sud by IHG

We accidentally booked this hotel, the one called "Sud", thinking we’d reserved the Holiday Inn Express in the city center. The start was a nightmare, but then we met Julia at reception, Mr Sadri, and manager madam Mirella. They’re really, really good at their jobs and did everything they could to make us feel comfortable and happy. I’m truly grateful. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the cleanliness and facilities are excellent. Breakfast was very good, served in a clean, well-organized area. Nino took care of us at breakfast, and we’d like to thank her separately. The staff make a hotel great. When they enjoy their work and get along well, you can feel it and leave happy. We were there at Christmas, but in summer you can also use the outdoor pool, mini golf, and Boccia facilities.

The room was clean, a decent size, and everything worked as it should. Breakfast was more than enough for something included in the rate. I don't get the complaints about it: if you expect an Intercontinental Hotel breakfast, you need to pay for that. This was just what I expect from a Holiday Inn Express, and I'll stay here again when I'm in the area.

We drove here from Germany in mid-December for Strasbourg's Christmas market, booking at the last minute because it was the only place available during the busy season. Strasbourg's market and Petite france were only a short drive away, which worked well for us since we had a car. The hotel is beside a highway and feels rather isolated, with no shops, restaurants, or apparent public transport nearby. We'd stayed at other Holiday Inn hotels before, and this one felt much the same. Our family of four took a larger room. It was ordinary, but fine for what we paid. The lobby and chairs had been decorated for Christmas, which was a nice touch. The receptionist also helped us when we asked for extra blankets. The included buffet was very good. The scrambled eggs stayed nicely soft whenever we came down, and the chocolate croissants were delicious. It was an affordable, convenient option for our trip.

The rooms themselves were fine, but the service made the stay awful. We had a room for four and only two towels. When we asked for more, we were told to look again, then told there weren't any available. Nobody cleaned the room during our three days there. We asked at least for a fresh trash bag and were handed one to change ourselves.
