Le Vieux Château

The owner was friendly and accommodating, but the room wasn't properly cleaned. There was a can under the bed, a stained towel, a dirty toilet, and hair on a stained pillow. The sheets hadn't been ironed, and the tap's push button was missing. When I brought it up, the owner didn't apologize. She said all the rooms were missing aerators because they'd disappeared, and I pointed out they could be replaced. Fine for a quick stopover, as it was for us.

We were five, two adults and three children, so we booked two rooms. There is a family room for four. The manager was very helpful, and we got a warm welcome and good value for money. The rooms were clean and well equipped, and it made for a relaxing stop on our trip. The small downside was the catering truck's refrigerator in the courtyard. Its air conditioning made some noise in the evening while we were trying to read on the balcony.

The waitress was very friendly and clearly tried hard to make everything go well. Her voice and constant, almost pathological sneer could feel a bit much, though that doesn't take away from her kindness or effort. The meal was decent, but could have been more refined, and the restaurant menu was quite limited. I read plenty of good reviews, but I think it's worth being objective.

The meat was dried out and the vegetables had no flavor. The fish terrine had lots of bones, and the dessert seemed to have been sitting around for several days. I was cold in the dining room.
