The pool was a lovely way to cool off on those really warm days, and we had generous, delicious four-course dinners after starting the evenings with aperitifs. Stephanie made us feel welcome from the minute we arrived, and her tour of her family's home was engaging. She answered all our questions happily. I was there with a horse-riding group of five, and stayed in the Marie d'Oretot bedroom. It was spacious, with a comfortable bed and a large ensuite bathroom. Chateau Gizeux is a really special place to stay. I'd highly recommend it.

The owner put together a wonderful picnic dinner for us. We had a lovely evening here and stayed the night.

The owners and their interns put on candlelit tours on Tuesday nights in July and August. We went on one during our visit to gizeux and were amazed by how beautifully and imaginatively the guide, dressed in classical costume, brought the old days to life. Even the children were impressed. A tour worth catching if you're in the area on a Tuesday.

The restoration is lovely and shows real taste, and the castle has an interesting story. An amazing place, and a must-see while touring the castles of the Loire Valley.

It's a beautiful chateau in the Loire Valley, even if it isn't among the best-known ones. Definitely worth a visit.
