Village De Montmarsis

A great base for exploring the area.

There’s lots of room and it’s comfortable in and around the cottages, with peace and quiet throughout the park. The swimming pool and surrounding area are well maintained, and the brasserie has tons of suggestions for excursions and day trips. A lovely park!

We were a group of 45 people there for a weekend at the end of September, enjoying this little village just a stone’s throw from the medieval town of Gourdon. The cottages are spacious, pleasant, very well equipped, and spotless. The beautiful grounds are well kept, and the swimming pool is lovely. Jérôme and his team were responsive, available, and supportive throughout. Half board was outstanding, and the breakfasts were exceptional, with local products. We also enjoyed the friendly welcome message on the large blackboard each day. The place is peaceful and exceptionally well appointed, with a fantastic welcome. It’s a superb place to stay in the Pays Bourian, a small region with real gems to visit.

We think this 5-star holiday park deserves 3 stars, mainly for its view and pool. The location is beautiful, the pool is large, and there were plenty of sunbeds even at busy times. The brasserie staff were friendly, and the on-site manager was friendly too. The couple managing the park had only been there for four and two weeks. When we arrived at our cottage on Saturday, it was filthy and smelled very musty. The roughly 20 scented sticks and sachets didn’t cover it up. Wiping the floor left the cloth black. The fridge thermometer showed 20 degrees Celsius. It took 12 hours to get it down to 10, so we had to throw away all the groceries we’d brought. In the heat, we tried the fans, but they smelled bad and were completely black with dust and dirt. The terrace was overgrown with weeds, with broken pens, markers, and bits of paper scattered around. Cupboards were full of piles of dirty plates and glasses. The washing machine rubber was black with mold. The cottage door wouldn’t lock, and the next day we found the wrong key on the hanger. On our first morning, we wanted tea but the kettle was broken. We told the manager, who came over and offered us a choice: have them clean and replace the appliances, or move to another cottage that also needed cleaning. We didn’t think the other one was any better, so we chose cleaning. They cleaned the cottage thoroughly and replaced the kettle and fridge, though they couldn’t remove all the mold from the washing machine. From the website and social media posts, we’d expected them to make and bake their own bread, but it turned out to be pre-baked bread. Then on Tuesday the washing machine overflowed while running, and the water reached the bedrooms. The manager came back and had a new machine installed. At a park that claims five stars, there shouldn’t be such a backlog of cleaning or so many faulty appliances uncovered in a single stay. If only one of these things had happened, we wouldn’t have considered it a problem, since replacement equipment is readily available. But the whole list overshadowed our holiday and even made us leave early.
