Comfort Mandarina

For the price, the service was really decent, especially since this is the cheapest hotel in Grasse. Our room was pretty roomy, which is quite something for a former convent. The hotel is simple but comfortable, and the staff and the views from up in the hills are both lovely. Parking's a little tight, but we managed even with a Peugeot 3008. Good value overall.

We booked for late June, and the price felt fair given the location and the view. Breakfast was a buffet and perfectly fine. Inside, the hotel was less appealing than it looked from the outside, though the panorama of Grasse and the sea in the distance was lovely. The rooms could do with some updating, but they were still adequate.

The staff were friendly, but that was about the only bright spot. The building's an old religious place turned into a bare, practically unfurnished and extremely dirty hovel, with poor service for an extremely high price. The area didn't feel good either, and the garage entrance is so narrow I scratched my car. From the marks on the corner, plenty of other people seem to have done the same. Don't go there!

We stayed Sept. 7-8. The location was nice and the sea view pleasant, and the restrooms were very clean. Getting to the center was difficult on the way back, though easy on the way there. Beyond that, we were disappointed. For a 2-star hotel, the price didn't match what was offered. From the parking lot, narrow stairs lead up, so bulky or heavy luggage would be a problem. The elevator was out of service, and the walkways, terrace, and outside areas looked neglected. The flowers and plants hadn't been tidied in a while. The receptionist was kind, but seemed uninterested. She didn't give us breakfast times and struggled to show us our room or explain the electronic lock. She also didn't warn us that reception and the hotel both close at 10:00 PM. We got back around 11:00 PM to a locked door, and luckily found a small note telling us how to open it ourselves. She couldn't point us toward Grasse's attractions either, as she didn't know them. The room was very dirty. There were cobwebs on some windows and in passages to the rooms, with dead spiders in them. They did act as mosquito nets, at least. The fan only pushed warm air, and the cupboards and shelves were dusty enough to look like they hadn't been cleaned in months. When a small bottle broke, we picked up what we could, but there was still some residue the next day. The floors looked as if they might only be cleaned once or twice a month. The water was hot the first day, lukewarm the next, then cold.
