Le Pied De La Lettre

We only stayed a night in Grignan, but had a really nice time. The location is hard to beat, and my son was delighted to have a loft space of his own in the room. We especially liked the breakfast croissants.

The restaurant’s atmosphere and the magnificent food came together for a wonderful evening, with the fish especially good. We’d only found the place late in our holiday, but the staff’s warmth and genuine manner stood out straight away. They clearly care about the little things. It made for a great night out.

The village is lovely, and the location is right in the center. But this was the only unpleasant experience we had on our Provence road trip. On arrival, the owner or staff member seemed hostile and treated us like a bother. The eye rolling and attitude started immediately, and we were left wondering if we’d done something or if she was simply having a bad day. We were hoping for a much warmer welcome. Our window looked onto a wall, with a small courtyard below where staff smoked. The cigarette smell got into the room. Breakfast was disappointing too. We had to give a specific time for them to “prepare,” then got one croissant and one bread roll each. There was no black tea or non-dairy milk.

Such a cosy, welcoming spot. The food was fresh and made with local ingredients, and the wines were thoughtfully chosen from small organic producers in the region. In this very touristic area, it’s a lovely place for slow food and an authentic experience. I wish there were more places like it.
