The host was kind and pleasant, and after a long day travelling from Spain we were relieved to stop. My partner had found the hotel on route after reading a couple of promising reviews. The room was small, with lime green walls, a tiny shower and dated furniture. We were glad to get out of the car, but breakfast was basic: two cold croissants, two small baguettes, two yoghurts, two bananas, honey and jam. It was disappointing not to have any meat or cheese. The place didn’t live up to the reviews for us, and we won’t be back.

I’ll never forget how kind my host was. I arrived limping, with a swollen ankle, after walking the Vezelay Route of the Camino through Hagetmau in the Basque region at the end of September 2022. He arranged a ride for the next day to a gite farther along the Camino, and gave me fruit, le pain and coffee at no charge. Even though he’d locked up to visit his son on a Sunday, he let me wait in the foyer for my ride. He was gracious and helpful throughout. Dinner and petit-dejeuner were excellent too. I highly recommend the hotel and restaurant.

It was decent overall, but the food was a letdown. We all ordered steak, and most of it was fat and gristle. ☹️
